The FemSex Workshop is a peer-facilitated, 16-week workshop that uses peer-to-peer learning, readings, discussions, and self-exploration to engage people in an honest and open dialogue about female identity. We strive to cover a range of topics relevant to the female experience, with an emphasis on ones that are often tabooed or silenced.

FemSex Workshop FAQs

The value of the FemSex Workshop is the diversity of experiences that our participants bring to the class. We welcome anybody who has ever had experience identifying with the female gender including: individuals of all races, nationalities, gender identities (including transgender MTF, FTM, genderqueer, pangender, intersex, transsexual, and cisgender women), sexual orientations (including bisexual, lesbian, gay, straight, queer, pansexual, and asexual), sexual experiences, sexual interests, political leanings, religious affiliations, age, income levels, and occupations. At this time, we unfortunately cannot accommodate cisgender men.

We also welcome those with disabilities. Both of our locations are wheelchair accessible, and we are working towards being more accommodating to other disabilities. (Please let us know if you have any concerns around this.)

We ask that you come into the workshop with an open mind, respect for your peers and a willingness to share your experiences. You must be over 18 to participate.

The workshop topics include: Anatomy, Sex and Gender; Communication; Power and Privilege; Women’s Health; Contraception and STIs; Body Image; Reproductive Choices; Sexual Practices and Orientation; Masturbation, Pleasure and Orgasm; Relationships; Menstruation; Pornography, Erotica, and Sex Work; and Boundaries and Violations.
Because we would like to have a small and intimate class setting, we will be capping the class at 15 participants.
One of our goals is to build a safe community. To do so requires a commitment from you to attend and be present, both physically and mentally, for each session. We hope that you can attend all 16 sessions in a season but realize that things come up. Our policy is that you need to attend at least 14 of the 16 sessions. Each session is three hours long.

As for time spent outside of class on FemSex readings and activities, this can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour each week.

Three hours definitely sounds long but we promise that it goes by quickly! We have a lot of material to cover in each class and feel that having a larger chunk of time (as opposed to splitting it up into 1.5 hr sessions) is more effective at building trust and community.
There are no teachers in this workshop! The FemSex Workshop does not operate on a teacher-student model but instead relies on peer-to-peer learning as one of its main drivers and sources of empowerment and inspiration. You will have two facilitators who will serve as guides throughout the workshop. They will lead the exercises and discussions during class but they are by no means experts. You are here to learn from each other.
There will be readings that accompany each class as well as short activities that we would like you to accomplish outside of class time. Don’t worry, no papers! The exercises are meant to be fun and exploratory.
The workshop donation fee is $100. Your donation will go towards space rental fees, buying class materials, and maintaining the website. That said, no one will be turned away because of financial reasons.

FemSex Boston is run entirely by volunteers, so all donations go directly to the needs of the workshop.

No worries! Come to one of our info sessions to find out more about the application process. Sign up to make sure you get reminders about our info sessions and application dates.
